You are needed in numbers this week. Our Panther football team has ventured into new territory in the young history of our football program. If you haven’t heard the Panthers went into the lion’s den this past week and beat the Augusta Christian Lions 28-20 in OT to go 3-0 in the league. Now we must host the Wildcats of Westminster in the cat fight of the year at Aquinas at 6pm. Both teams are undefeated and hungry for a championship. Let’s pack the house and send the Wildcats back home licking their wounds.
It will be a busy day on Tuesday, September 30 in Panther Nation with the undefeated varsity volleyball team also playing at 6pm versus the Saints of St. Mary’s on the Hill, and our tennis teams will also taking on the Wildcats of Westminster at 4pm.
Time to start tuning up the basketball skills. EDS will host a basketball Clinic with Will Avery, Former NBA and Duke University player.

Mrs. Weston’s class had fun at Appleby Library!
K-1st grade after school students made sculptures using marshmallows and toothpicks with their teacher Ms. Nina Howard. Here they are with their finished sculptures before they go outside to play.
First Graders celebrate Johnny Appleseed’s birthday every year. We began the morning decorating Johnny Appleseed hats. Our three sections of first grade rotated between our classrooms. Students visiting Mrs. Snead’s room read about John Chapman, made books about his life and watched a brief video. Students visiting Mrs. Grogan’s room painted their vision of an apple tree. Students visiting Ms. King’s room tasted and graphed their favorite apple. The day ended with Hank M., EDS third grader, returning to first grade to read the book, which he has done for the past three years.
Here’s another quick way to make money for EDS – use the Target Red Card. Over the last two school years, the Target Red Card has given back over $1500 to EDS with only a few parents participating. Imagine how much more we could bring to our school if we were all to get a Red Card!
Target offers 2 ways to earn money for EDS. Parents may select the Target Red Debit Card or the Target Red Credit Card. Target will donate 1% of Red Card purchases to EDS. The Target Red Debit Card works like a check by drawing from your existing checking account. There is no annual fee and there is secured PIN access. The Target Red Credit Card works like any traditional credit card. Additional information, and an application for the Target Red debit and credit cards may be found online at www.target.com/redcard.
Mrs. Smith’s class and Mrs. Weston’s class celebrated the end of their Bear unit with a Teddy Bear parade in the EDS courtyard. Each student worked on their float at home. The children took great pride in decorating and designing the floats. We would like to thank all the classes that attended the parade and cheered the Threes on during their first EDS parade.
On Wednesday, fourth graders were out and about on campus with tape measures to determine whether Noah’s Ark, according to its massive biblical measurements would fit on our campus. They did the math – converting cubits to feet and measure length, width, and height.
