Campers have been having a wonderful time at Summer at EDS. They have spent time playing sports, creating wonderful works of art, exploring the world of technology, and enjoying a variety of enrichments. During the week of July 11-15, campers had the opportunity to learn about gardening and produce at our Flowing Wells Campus. Every camper, including our Threes and Pre-K campers, went out to the Flowing Wells Campus each day to work on gardening and learn about farming and plants with Boardman Chair of Science and Sustainability, Joe Kirstein.
On Friday, as a culminating event to our wonderful week, we invited parents to join us for a snack at our Flowing Wells Campus. We dined on vegetables that were planted and harvested in our gardens, and had a wonderful morning sharing the Flowing Wells Campus with parents and guests. Our youngest campers, threes and PK, worked hard to make pesto from scratch. The kindergarten and first grade campers made tomato and cucumber salad with a vinaigrette dressing. Our oldest campers worked on slicing and shredding squash to make squash fritters and fried squash.
We are pleased to announce a wide variety of enrichments at EDS this fall! Some of our favorites are back, as well as new opportunities. We offer arts, sports, and technology based programs. While more enrichments may be added as the semester goes on, please note that those listed are open and sign up can begin. Most programs will begin the week of August 29, with a few select enrichments beginning before that. Keep an eye out for our new Lower School Athletic Programs, especially the Kidz Skillz and Drillz: Basketball with Will Avery. More enrichments may be added so please check back often.
The After School Enrichments had a very successful year. Students had the opportunity to participate in STEM programs, visual art, dance, piano, violin, soccer, volleyball, running, and many other activities. On Thursday, the art programs had the inaugural Fine Arts Showcase. The afternoon started with a gallery walk, as spring art students showed off their works of art. Mrs. Heinlein is a talented teacher, and the student’s hard work was evident in their beautiful creations.
After the gallery walk, the performances began. Students from the Young 3s-3rd grade have been working hard all year on the violin, piano and dance. All performing arts were showcased, as each and every student participated! The Parish Hall at the Church of the Good Shepherd, where the event was held, was packed to the point of standing room only!
